A Holistic Approach to Wellness

Our health is so very important. When our bodies are working as they should, health=HEAL, when our amazing bodies can actually heal themselves from the inside. Nurture yourself :)
Here's just a reminder of what to be conscious of when it comes to our personal health.  Amy Green from the University of Calgary gave us some food for thought. Here's a brief synopsis:

Physical Wellness -sweat out toxins, exercise, sauna -eat foods that enable our bodies to be HEALthy -know your bodies sensitivities to food
Spiritual Wellness -often people find this through religious means, we recommend skipping the 'religion' and having a close and intimate relationship with God directly -regular meditation, think even just 5 minutes a day -know how to forgive, and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Be compassionate
Intellectual Wellness -take part in creative processes -engage in life long learning, this can be different for everyone. Interact constantly with people smarter than yourself, visit galleries and museums,…

Natural Remedies to Aid in Asthma Relief

I had severe asthma as a child, but my parents were very anti 'steroid filled puffers' and thank goodness. Of course had them when I needed them but they were smart to look hard at alternatives and quickly.

As a baby I had severe asthma attacks, by the time I was 12, I did not need another puffer again. I truly believe with faith, and a proper health plan, you can manage your own asthma. In worst case scenarios puffers are a good emergency go to, but should not be an everyday norm.

I found a great deal of relief breathing in menthol found in real essential oils including eucalyptus, not synthetic scents. A turning point came for me when I started seeing a reflexologist and my parents continued the recommended therapies at home including massaging the proper pressure points in my feet.

Often just changing your diet can alleviate severe asthma symptoms. Many foods contain anti inflammatory properties including raw fruits and veg, and wild salmon (not farmed).

Nutrition Should Not Be A Trend

Forget diets, just eat real whole foods and you wont even have to count calories or boycott certain foods. For example, portion controlled diets are just setting yourself up for failure, you need to eat when you're hungry, just fill yourself up with goodness! Gluten free is just a fad, it's not the gluten, it's the way our wheat is processed so avoid all GMO foods and I bet you'll have no gluten intolerance. Remember that sugar is added to processed foods too, so try and just buy raw natural ingredients to make your meals with, not prepackaged things in boxes, and especially avoid, sugar free (filled with worse chemical sweaters than just sugar in it's raw form) and fat free, many foods need the good fats i.e yogurt.
These few things have been working wonders for our bodies through all the fads!
Spicy foods, well the capsaicin that comes from the peppers, can stimulate stomach nerves letting us know when we're truly full. Think chili and cayenne peppers.
Olive oi…

Be Bold, Be Confident!

Women everywhere, let's be bold, be confident and get in tune with our incredible bodies that have been naturally designed for child birth and nourishment, bypassing all sorts of common problems like regular ear infections to allergies to so much more! Since when has it become socially acceptable to over medicate ourselves as women to give birth with less pain? Have we not stopped to think what this pain does for us and how beneficial it is for both mom and baby and the bond it naturally creates? What do we think women did before our time? Why do we neglect our own confidence and bodies and selfishly wimp out of what we are quite capable of achieving? This is not to condemn anyone but we do need to be well aware of our choices, and make informed choices especially when choosing for a baby that can't advocate for their own well being. Everything is connected so why create problems when they don't need to be created, if all is well then stick to natural! Take a look at thes…

Happy & Healthy Eating Friends!

Wow, This Crap is in Baby Products...

NUMBER 1-
Never Use Vaseline on a Baby (or yourself for that matter)...

Vaseline is a by product of oil refining, you got it, a derivative of oil processing, pure sludge. Yuck.
Live Clean Non Petroleum Jelly is an excellent alternative for any use you'd usually think to use vaseline. Babar Too Co also creates a wonderful multi purpose Baby Balm that acts as a barrier just like Vaseline minus all the toxins on your baby's skin!

NUMBER 2-
'A Family Company' eeeeek to Johnson & Johnson's lousy lie to promote marketing! Many, actually about all of their products (baby washes, shampoos, moisturizers) contain totally harmful ingredients you'd never want to put on your infant. Did you know the ingredients of Baby Shampoo is:

Water- good

Cocamidopropyl Betaine - yes it is derived partly from coconut oil but what they add to it and how the process it is BAD. It is also considered an allergen in many studies

PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate- awful, contains carcinogens linked to can…

Let's Talk Breastfeeding.

Barriers to breastfeeding most often include work-related issues (bottle that breast milk!), personal preferences (feeling we have the choice not the responsibility to choose otherwise), having an unsupportive partner (choosing partner over baby), feeling embarrassed (lets get over our own selfishness and give baby what is factually, not judgmentally, BEST), concerns about pain(letting fear win), and physical/medical problems. Just because we live in the minority of the world that treats it acceptable to formula feed at will, doesn't mean it's the right choice. If a mother decides not to breastfeed she needs to recognize the probable strain on the health care system down the road and the potential problems for baby including passing on issues to care takers later on and society in general. If you decide to have a baby, decide to take the best care of it possible. Determinants of breastfeeding initiation include income, education, nationality, race/ethnicity, region of residen…

Carotenoids

Yams, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Melon, Oranges, Mango, Spinach, Kale...
Carotenoids are organic plant pigments that provide the colour in some of our fruits and vegetables like tomatoes and carrots. They also provide us with many health benefits including strong antioxidants which destroy free radicals aka cell damagers within the body.

Unlike most other plant foods that are best consumed raw for optimal nutrition, carotenoid rich foods are best served cooked for maximum benefits alongside good fat for best absorption. There are over 600 types of carotenoids.

They have strong cancer fighting properties, especially prostate cancer (lycopene) and are a known anti inflammatory and immune system builder.

Lutein is a carotenoid that has known benefits for the eyes and also in eliminating cholesterol. Studies show beta-cryptoxanthin can prevent lung cancer by astonishing percentages as high as 24% Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention). As well it has been found that it can decrease …

Fight Fatigue the Natural Way

No one enjoys fatigue yet there are numerous reasons why it occurs. If you're a woman, often a hormone imbalance can be the culprit. It can be as simple as (and often is) low iron. Get some blood work and check your ferritin (iron stores) level. You don't even have to have anemia to feel tired from low iron! We lose iron daily as part of our natural process but women who are menstruating lose more (along with calcium)
How our thyroid is functioning can also be a major cause of fatigue so get some more blood work done and check your TSH levels.
Stress alone can also bring on fatigue so make sure to give yourself the down time and rest you need.
Another major cause of fatigue is blood sugar levels. You don't have to be a diabetic to be affected by blood sugar! Make sure you're eating often and staying well hydrated. Remember choose nutrient rich foods, not empty calories in refined sugary foods or white refined flour filled substances.

Women In Business

As the sole proprietor of Babar Too Co. I know what it's like to be a women in business, all by yourself. The stereotypes often prove true and the economic times don't make things any easier.

Recently I've read a great book by Julie V. Watson called 'How Women Make Money' and I've put together some highlights of what she says coupled with my own thoughts to help all you amazing women out there who are fed up with working for someone else's agenda and want to kick start their own! I believe we should work together, competition or not. People often look at me funny when I share my suppliers etc but if no one helps others, what is there to gain?

I encourage you more than absolutely anything, to be persistent. Failure only becomes reality when one gives up. Otherwise, make lots of mistakes on the way to your success and learn from them! Don't set unrealistic time frames is probably one of the key things I've learned over the last few years. Be patient, …

Taken from God's Pharmacy...

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... And YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.
A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.
Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.
Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just li…

Simple Beneficial Facts

A reduction in diabetes risk of 22% was found with high intakes of beta carotene a recent Dutch study tells us based on a study of almost 40,000 adults. So increase those orange and yellow fruits and green leafy veggies!
People that followed a Mediterranean diet were more than 50% less likely to develop Alzheimer's. The diet limits fried and fast foods and red meat and amps up on green leafy veg, nuts, berries and beans, fish and whole grains.
184,000 is the amount of adult deaths worldwide each year directly contributed to drinking soda in excess.

What are we doing to our Food!?!

Did you know many people that suffer from 'gluten issues' here in North America can eat all kinds of gluten products in Europe and not experience any of the nasty side effects they're accustomed to here?

It's all to do with how we've manipulated our food through genetically modifying, spraying and engineering what we eat.

What else are we putting up with?

Where has summer gone!

These chilly nights and all the pumpkins white & orange at the markets means that summer is yup you guessed it, pretty much over. There's this natural sense of mild loss in each one of us in that our hot days, our bbqing, our swimming and boating is well over, mine as well make room for hot chocolate & apple cider. mmm. Apple crisp, Thanksgiving, pumpkin, autumn walks are rolling in!
