Spring Cleaning For Your Health

Open Up - Open those windows & let the fresh air in!

Clear Out - Get rid of harmful cleansers in your closet & cupboards. Lots of disinfectants used at home contain formaldehyde, chlorine, & ammonia. They're released into the air when you clean & inhaled. They also linger after cleaning is over. Switch to non-toxic cleaning products or make your own! Don't forget to switch your laundry detergent too!                                                                          

Watch What You Wear - Wear natural fabrics like cotton & silk, or newer trends like bamboo & hemp. Your skin is the largest organ of the body!

Eat Well- Try to avoid herbicides, fungicides, & insecticides by purchasing organic and/or washing your foods well

Walk- If you're able, walk to work & school & everywhere you can for that matter. Try to walk where there is no air pollution from traffic, even  just a short distance away is much better!

Light Candles- Light Beeswax or Soya Candles, avoid paraffin.

Bye bye Carpet - If it's an option, remove your carpet. Never mind the glue, carpets trap bacteria, pollutants, & allergens. If you suffer from allergies, wood or tile flooring could really help allieviate symptoms. Use washable area rugs instead.

No Plastic - recently BPA (bisphenol) was added to Environment Canada's list of Toxic Substances for suspected health effects. It's also a very common ingredient in everyday plastic food containers & water bottles. Opt for metal (but not aluminum).

Back to Basics- Try and make your food from scratch, avoiding processed & pre seasoned foods. Groceries will probably be cheaper too!

Darn right it does! All those nutrients in healthy food have a huge impact on your brain function and therefore your mood. Think as your body as one big machine, if all the parts are working properly by obtaining the right fuel, all systems should be good to go!

Natural Remedies to Aid in Asthma Relief

I had severe asthma as a child, but my parents were very anti 'steroid filled puffers' and thank goodness. Of course had them when I needed them but they were smart to look hard at alternatives and quickly. 

As a baby I had severe asthma attacks, by the time I was 12, I did not need another puffer again. I truly believe with faith, and a proper health plan, you can manage your own asthma. In worst case scenarios puffers are a good emergency go to, but should not be an everyday norm. 

I found a great deal of relief breathing in menthol found in real essential oils including eucalyptus, not synthetic scents. A turning point came for me when I started seeing a reflexologist and my parents continued the recommended therapies at home including massaging the proper pressure points in my feet. 

Often just changing your diet can alleviate severe asthma symptoms. Many foods contain anti inflammatory properties including raw fruits and veg, and wild salmon (not farmed).

Apples & Cheese (try old cheddar!)
Cheese (remember we're talking REAL cheese, NEVER processed wanna be cheese slices) & Wholesome Crackers or better yet Wholegrain Pita (these are tricky to find, avoid enriched wheat flours and preservatives or anything artificial)
Leftover Homemade Pizza with Wholewheat Crust & Veggies
Pita & Salsa or Guacamole 
Bruschetta
Fruit(think fruit salad, slices, whole)
Veggies(raw or steamed, with olive oil & lemon juice or garlic & maybe dip like hummus or tazaki)
Wholegrain Toast with Natural Peanut Butter (not the sugar laden stuff Kraft likes us to think is Peanut Butter) Toast With Cheese, Toast with Spinich & Feta
Celery with Cream Cheese (organic if possible)
Fresh Coconut Chunks
Applesauce with Cinnamon & Maple Syrup
A bowl of Cream of Wheat or Red River or Oatmeal with Maple Syrup
